Tribute to the Bird Man of India

12th November, 2015 marks 119th birthday of one of the greatest ornithologists of India, Late Dr. Salim Ali. His research and field works were revolutionary and he contributed extensively to the field of ornithology by publishing breakthrough scientific papers and books. His book, the Book of Indian Birds is a definitive guide to every Indian birdwatcher, amateur and serious alike. It is full of rich and descriptive information on 500+ species of birds that are found in Indian subcontinent which he collected by visiting many obscure regions in the subcontinent previously unattempted by any other person for bird-specific study. His autobiography, The Fall of a Sparrow, is one of his other beautifully written books describing how his lifelong dedication for birds study and conservation began and how he worked hard albeit with great love for birds to give an insight to the world on Indian birds.\n

On occasion of his birthday, I find it apt to share this amazing documentary on him as a tribute which I came across while browsing Facebook today, a post made by BNHS”s page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcI2zMzO3tw
