I love Octobers

I absolutely love Octobers. In India, October is a delicious concoction of warm sunshine and chilling breeze. As I am writing down these words, the sunshine outside is getting weaker and weaker with every passing moment. Very soon, it will smoothly give way to the chill of November, eventually losing itself completely to the freezing cold of December. But, right now, it is still velvety warm under the trees. The leaves are rustling softly in the light breeze and their quiver is making a shimmering patchwork of sunshine and shadows on the ground. The ground itself is enticingly carpeted with brown and yellow leaves as the deciduous trees are yielding to the yearly ritual of shedding their leaves. It is enticing – because, even though childhood is long gone, I still love to walk over each and every fallen leaf to hear that satisfactory ”crunch” under my feet and to breath in the subtle earthy perfume. My mother calls October weather a “rosy winter” – it is not quite Winter yet, but the hint of it is in the air. The Summer is not quite gone, the warmth lingering still. Since childhood, I have loved (and I still do) to eat something sweet and spicy together in one mouthful, the opposites blending in, a satisfactory flavour. It is neither too sweet nor too spicy – just perfect. I suppose, this the reason why I love Octobers too – it is neither too hot nor too cold – just the right weather, it is just perfect.
