Not promises, but goals

Taken on New Year''s Eve at Lalbagh
Tabebuia Rosea – Taken on New Year’s Eve at Lalbagh

The clock ticked by,
the days flew.
The year was ending,
that I knew.
Next year I would do,
I told myself,
what I want to.
I started scribbling on journals,
tapping lists on phone,
hoping that this year would be better,
so many skills to hone!
Writing is the first,
Reading more is for sure,
Then there is sketching,
Oh, the list keeps on stretching…
These I solemnly tell myself,
are not resolutions or promises,
but smalls goals, a plan,
of things I want to do,
of things I can.

I wrote this short sort-of poem (in a bleak attempt to start writing poetry again, please bear with me) as a part of Wednesday Verse by Reema. I decided to give it a try to start writing more (I”m participating in another 500-words writing challenge). I intend to write more this year, whether it be my personal journal, in this blog or just about anything that gets the creative juices flowing and help me get better at writing.
