I may not be able to dive deep into oceans and see gems gliding before my eyes because neither do I know swimming nor do I plan to. More importantly, I find the idea of getting under water claustrophobic. That’s a comfort zone I may not get out of to see fishes and other ocean wonders in reality but there are always other means these days – so many (or maybe not quite enough) books and the imagination to bring the words to animation in my mind, videos, documentaries, wikipedia articles and other sundry taken-for-granted modern conveniences that allow me to love ocean by sitting in my living room in my comfy pyjamas. And, that is what it is – a pure, unadulterated, exciting interest in ocean things – sea shells, sea turtles, fishes of all kinds, cetaceans, waves, tides, and all the cozy secretive places for sea creatures to find home in. To learn more and love more, not only have I read Sea Trilogy by magnificent writer Rachel Carson, but also Eye of the Shoal by Helen Scales (let’s not forget Spirals in Time which I read almost ten years ago because I have always been a fan of seashells), Moby Dick (it’s fiction full of amazing non-fiction stuff), Whales – An Illustrated Celebration encyclopaedia, and a few random documentaries about whales and fishes. And, for me, this has only begun. 🐟
